Camera or phone - you will want to capture these views!
Warm clothes - we offer safety overalls free of charge but it’s a good idea to dress in layers and bring hats, gloves, and good shoes. It’s always colder at sea than on land.
Closed shoes - for your safety and comfort.
Optional - Water bottle / snacks - we don’t have bar/kitchen service on board so you are welcome to take your food/water on board if you want.
Sun glasses - the sun’s reflection in the sea can be very strong, we recommend having lenses with a good UV filter.
Optional - strap to hold your camera or phone - a waterproof case may not be necessary, but it is a good idea to secure your camera or phone with a strap. With the motion onboard, you may want to have your hands free and not drop your belongings, but our overalls have great pockets too.
-
Alcohol & Cigarettes - smoking is strictly forbidden on our tours. This is also not an activity that goes well with alcohol, let’s keep you safe and sober for these 2,5-3 hours!
Single use plastics - let’s be mindful and bring back to land all the waste that can easily fly away while on board, specially snack wrappings and plastic bottles.
Drones - are prohibited on our tours. In accordance with regulation no. 990 / 2017 on the operation of unmanned aircrafts (UAV), flight safety and the safety and rights of citizens and the protection of wildlife, we cannot allow drones to be flown from and around our vessels while at sea.
Big bags- are best to be kept in our office due to limited space on board.
Pushchairs & baby strollers - due to limited space on board they must be kept in our office.

We have had 97-99% sighting success rate over the last years, and the chances of seeing whales in our area are likely the highest in the entire country, even though wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
If you happen to be part of the small % of unlucky passengers, we will offer you to join another tour FREE of charge, subject to availability.

Our most common visitors are Humpback Whales, Minke Whales and White-Beaked Dolphins. However, other species can be seen on occasion: Blue Whales, Fin Whales, Sei Whales, Sperm Whales, Northern Bottlenose Whales, Orcas (Killer Whales) and Long-Finned Pilot Whales. Learn more HERE.
Whales can be seen ALL YEAR ROUND. Even though many species are migratory, not all individuals migrate every year. In different months, some species might be more present than others. There’s simply no bad time to go whale watching in Iceland!
-
Blue Whales, the largest animals on earth, are typically here for a short period of time, unlike most individuals of Humpback Whale. If your dream is to see one, we recommend that you follow us on social media as we share short videos of our sightings on a daily basis!
-
There is no better or worse time, but each month can be different in terms of how many whales are in the area.
We sail everyday between April-October and, in recent years, we have seen Humpback Whales every month.
In general, we can just confidently say that there is no bad time to see whales in Iceland!
-
There is no better or worse time of the day to the whales - the chances are the same at any given moment!
There are a few differences that you may want to consider
9:00 MORNING TOURS, are the first to find animals, typically these tours have often the calmest sea conditions as the wind can pick up throughout the day but that is not a rule, when it comes to the weather it’s always best to check it closer to your arrival, it may be the opposite during your timeline!
13:00 DEPARTURE is typically fantastic, usually we already know by this time where to find animals so you might have the benefit of spending a little more time with them, however at this time of the day the wind might pick up - we are sailing in the open bay so the conditions can be changing quickly.
17:00 DEPARTURE - for some reason, these tours seem to be the least popular as a choice, with great sighting success it has more likely to do with travelling agendas, but there’s a good chance you will be having a small group of people with you on board. Late summer, a great highlight is also a beautiful light eventually turning into sunsets.
20:30 MIDNIGHT SUN TOURS - these departures only happen for a very short window of time and we highly recommend them as the light is just stunning and it’s a great addition to watching whales in our area.
It’s hard to advice what is best, we can simply say that there is no bad time to see the whales! it’s more about the experience you are looking for. If you’re hesitating or have any questions - how is the situation in the time that you’ll arrive, we’re just a phone call away!

Skjálfandi Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in Iceland but it is widely open to the North Atlantic Ocean and located only 50km away from the Arctic Circle. Though our boats are very well equipped and safe, we cannot control the weather and occasionally it happens that our passengers get seasick.
-
Up to 24h prior departure time: tours cancelled a day in advance will be 100% refunded, no questions asked.
We recommend booking in advance as our tours tend to sell out rather quickly. In that sense, it’s better to secure your spot on board. In case your travel plans change, you can simply contact us to cancel or reschedule your booking.
-
We do not offer refunds for non-sighting tours. Whales and dolphins are wild animals that choose to come into Skjálfandi Bay to feed and, as such, are not subject to our control.
However, we offer COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS and invite you to join another tour FREE OF CHARGE, depending on availability.

We have an impressive box of lost & found items! We store found items for 1 month. If you don’t contact us or come back for your belongings, we will eventually donate those items to the Red Cross as we have limited storage space. If you need us to keep it longer, that’s no problem, as long as you let us know.
