A Blue Whale and Six Humpbacks in Skjálfandi Bay
Skjálfandi Bay was full of life today, with one of our most exciting days of the season so far.
Our morning tour encountered both a blue whale and a humpback whale. We were lucky enough to see both whales raise their flukes as they disappeared beneath the surface , a beautiful start to the day.
The afternoon brought even more activity. This time, we encountered six humpback whales in the bay, accompanied by amazing weather and beautiful conditions on the water.
Blue whales are always a particularly special sight. As the largest animals on Earth, their presence in Skjálfandi Bay is one of the highlights we hope for as spring progresses in North Iceland.
From a blue whale and a humpback in the morning to six humpbacks in the afternoon, April 19 certainly showed us how quickly the wildlife picture in the bay can change from one tour to the next. 🐋
