A Humpback Returns to the Journal

Skjálfandi Bay gave us our first humpback whale entry in the Ocean Journal today.

We spotted one humpback whale far out in the bay. It was a brief encounter , we saw the whale surface once before losing sight of it, without seeing its fluke. A few harbour porpoises were also spotted during the tour, although the encounter was brief and not everyone on board managed to see them.

Even with a short whale sighting, it was a beautiful April day to be out on the water. The mountains surrounding Skjálfandi Bay were particularly spectacular, making quite a backdrop as we searched the bay.

After several quiet early-season trips, it was wonderful to have a humpback whale back in our sightings log. 🐋
