Four Cetacean Species in Skjálfandi Bay

Skjálfandi Bay treated us to a wonderfully varied wildlife day today, with four different cetacean species encountered during our whale watching tour from Húsavík.

A blue whale was among the highlights of the trip, along with a humpback whale. We also encountered dolphins and the much smaller and often elusive harbour porpoises.

Seeing several different species during a single tour is always a great reminder of the diversity of marine life found in the waters around Húsavík. From the enormous blue whale to the little harbour porpoise, each encounter offered something completely different.

With great weather accompanying us on the bay, April 23 turned into another memorable spring day at sea and a fantastic addition to our 2026 Ocean Journal. 🐋
