From Two Humpbacks to Six in One Day

Morning Tour

Our morning whale watching tour from Húsavík encountered two humpback whales. Both gave us good opportunities to observe them at the surface, making for a lovely start to the day.

Afternoon Tour

Just a few hours later, we headed back onto the bay and this time we encountered six humpback whales.

It turned into a very good afternoon of whale watching, with considerably more humpbacks present than we had encountered during the morning departure.

Days like today are exactly why there is no simple answer when we're asked whether morning or afternoon is better for whale watching in Húsavík. The morning brought two humpbacks and good views; by the afternoon, there were six.

The whales are moving freely through Skjálfandi Bay, and even a few hours can completely change what we encounter. 🐋
