Humpbacks from Morning to Afternoon in Skjálfandi Bay

Another day on Skjálfandi Bay showed just how much whale watching can change between two departures on the very same day.

Morning Tour

Our morning search brought us one humpback whale. The whale was somewhat difficult to observe, but patience paid off and we eventually had two good opportunities to see it at the surface.

Afternoon Tour

By the afternoon, the picture had already changed. This time we encountered two humpback whales in the bay. Rain accompanied us again, although conditions had improved compared with earlier in the day.

Days like April 27 are a great example of why there isn't really a "best" time of day for whale watching in Húsavík. These are wild animals moving freely through Skjálfandi Bay, and the experience can change within just a few hours.

Today, both departures found humpback whales but each tour had its own completely different encounter.
