Two Tours, Two Humpback Encounters

April 28 brought us two very different whale watching trips on Skjálfandi Bay, with a humpback whale encountered on both departures.

Morning Tour

It took some searching, but we eventually encountered one humpback whale. The whale gave us one good look at the surface, although we didn't see its fluke before it disappeared again.

Afternoon Tour

The afternoon brought another humpback whale encounter, but conditions had become much more challenging. Poor weather made this a difficult tour, although we were still able to find a humpback during our time on the bay.

Days like this are a good reminder that choosing between a morning and afternoon whale watching tour isn't really about choosing the "better" time. Wildlife activity and conditions can change within hours, and each departure onto Skjálfandi Bay is its own experience.

For April 28, both tours found a humpback but the two trips unfolded very differently. 🐋
