Three Feeding Humpback Whales in Skjálfandi Bay
What a way to finish April! Three humpback whales spent the day feeding in Skjálfandi Bay, giving both our morning and afternoon tours the chance to encounter them.
Morning Tour
Our morning tour found three humpback whales feeding together on and off. The wind eased considerably during the trip, and we were able to spend time watching the three whales as they moved through the bay.
It was a fantastic encounter and one of those mornings that gave us plenty to photograph!
Afternoon Tour
When we returned to the bay in the afternoon, the same three humpback whales were still there and still feeding.
This time, however, they weren't together as much as they had been during the morning. The whales were mostly feeding separately, giving the afternoon tour a slightly different experience with the same three individuals.
April 30 was a perfect example of how quickly things can change on Skjálfandi Bay. Morning and afternoon tours encountered the same whales, but even within a few hours their behaviour had changed.
Three feeding humpbacks made for a wonderful end to our first full month of the 2026 Ocean Journal.
